I brought my first laptop (386) from my parents' house… It's broken (LCD & HDD), but not in so bad shape…
I still have the VGA adapter somewhere around.

I used to have the PSU but it broke long ago, maybe I still have the shell somewhere.

Should restore it but I have some many urgent things to do first…

I recall I had to write a DOS driver to enable the full MB or RAM after noticing not all was used and poking at the chipset registers…

Oh yeah I already had those back panels fixed with some wires…

I wonder how well DESQview/X would run on that…

Oh and I still have the bag that (probably) came with it, but I currently use it to bring my old ASUS laptop to FOSDEM & other confs to showcase Haiku…

@mmu_man @ky0ko next up, see if the keyboard works, and the screen, and then - as it has no psu - see if you can get an arm board in there (:

(Mainly because much less power than intel...)

@Truck @mmu_man i really, really don't like it when people shove arm boards in places where they don't belong ...

@ky0ko @Truck yeah I don't feel very well when I see machines gutted to fit a raspberry…

Although I admin sometimes it is done very well and in the respect of the casing, like on thie Minitel 5:

Still, seeing photos of the internal brought cold to my spine.

@ky0ko @mmu_man I really, really hate when people throw usable material away that could be purposed for something else, just because it "isn't the right thing."

And then 3d print something else, wasting a lot of material...

I don't like it when people have some _working_ unit and they remove the working parts to "modernize" it, but when it's broken - use the parts that remain that are still functional and fit a purpose.

In my mind, arm boards don't "belong" anywhere, as they are small. I've got some modem cases that will be repurposed for arm boards _because they weren't very good modems to begin with_ and their usability as a modem is basically nil... I have modems that _are_ usable and will not be refitted.

This is where I was going with the suggestion... not "oh, a working machine!" but "don't throw it out! repurpose it for something useful!"
